RAF marks 50 years of Puma ops with national flypast

The Royal Air Force (RAF) has marked the 50th anniversary of its Westland Puma medium-lift tactical transport helicopter fleet by conducting a nationwide flypast, involving ten examples of the type, on July 7.

The formation departed RAF Benson, Oxfordshire – the type’s home base – at approximately 1030hrs (local time) before transiting north on the first leg of its national flypast. The flight flew over the British Midlands, visiting the RAF Museum in Hendon, London, and a variety of other RAF stations before it landed at RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire, at roughly 1155hrs (local time).
