Conceived in the early/mid-1970s and first flown in December 1977, the Mil Mi-26, allocated the ASCC/NATO reporting name Halo, has proven the soundness of its design over more than three decades in service. Improvements to the super-heavy Mi-26’s dynamic components from the mid-2010s helped it find new export success, but now production of a more comprehensively-upgraded derivative, the Mi-26T2V, is imminent.
