Unearthed – 1942 visit to an RAF Boston squadron

Despite World War Two still raging the press were invited to visit a squadron of the RAF’s new Douglas Bostons and experience flying in the bomber, as reported in the April 17, 1942 issue of ‘The Aeroplane’

WITH A BOSTON SQUADRON

DOUGLAS BOSTON bombers have been reaching this country from America for many months, but most of them have gone into service with the Royal Air Force, suitably modified, as Havoc night fighter-bombers operating with Fighter Command. More recently, a part of the supply was diverted to Bomber Command and squadrons of Boston day bombers are now on active service. They made the first raid on the Matford Works at Poissy, near Paris, on March 8, and followed up this success with daylight raids on the shipyards at Le Trait and on shipping in the harbour at Le Havre.
