Nicknamed ‘The Magic City’, Miami is home to an international airport with a history of hosting a rich variety of airliner traffic. Regular contributor Ron Mak recalls some magic moments during his visits between 1979 and 1981

This Inair Panama Convair CV-880F, HP-821 (c/n 22-00-41), was a regular visitor to Florida while on lease with the carrier. The wholly owned Panamanian organisation was founded as a charter company in January 1967, operating regular cargo links to various points in Central and South America. The aircraft was originally delivered to Delta Air Lines as N8810E in November 1960. It was then acquired by Monarch Aviation, which leased the Convair 880 to Inair in February 1979. Just over a year later, HP-821 was damaged beyond repair upon landing at Panama’s Tocumen Airport
