The pilot scheme only requires a saliva sample for the test, creating a more positive testing experience
Beginning today (March 1), Edinburgh Airport will begin its pre-departure rapid testing trial.
The scheme – which provides results in as little as 15 minutes – is to last one week and uses tests that only require a sample of saliva, eliminating the need for nasal swabs.
Rapid testing company, Biosure and vital signs solutions firm, PocDoc are running the trial.
“We know testing will be part of our travelling future, so it makes absolute sense that we look at how that is possible in an airport environment as we prepare for aviation’s recovery,” said Gordan Dewar, chief executive of Edinburgh Airport.
“Although there is a lack of detail on when that recovery might be able to take place, we are going to do all we can as an airport to make sure we put processes in place, so we are in the strongest position possible when conditions allow.”
Staff and campus volunteers are eligible to take part in the trial due to low passenger numbers. It aims to establish how testing can be scaled at airports, potentially adding to the testing capability that’s already in place at Edinburgh.
