Here are the first five of twelve gliders registered in the G-AL** series. I do not know where or when they were taken but it seems most likely it was in 1949. I suspect there is more than one location but you may know better. Interestingly LKG is preserved awaiting restoration and LMP is still extent. The background in one or two is interesting too.
Hope you enjoy them.

The minimoa BGA338/G-ALLZ was owned by Philip Wills. It went to Iceland asTF-SOM, but was destroyed when the hanger it was in collapsed on it.
The Carden Baynes Scud 111 BGA283/ G-ALJR is now at Dunstable, the engine is supposedly went to the science museum. The Scud 11 BGA321/G-ALOT is also at Dunstable, with Scud111 BGA684.
The Dart Cambridge 1 BGA263/G-ALTZ was writtern off in a mid air collision at Camphill 15.6 1952

EON Olympia G-ALJP

I am the owner of the oldest surviving EON Olympia, Serial number 003 and BGA number 503. It originally had the serial G-ALJP. It was owned from new by a syndicate at Camphill, and was named "Blue John" after the locally mined semi-precious stone. Does anyone have any photos of this glider, with or without the "G" serial?

Does anyone have any photos, or details, of another Olympia, that was registered VV400 with the ETPS?

Thanks,

Robert.

That is a strange registration. According to all material I've got on Icelandic registrations, nothing has ever been registered as TF-SOM. It does not exist as far as paperwork with the CAA is concerned. However, I'm not going to doubt this registration for the time being, as there were a couple of sailplanes operated here for a few years in the 50's that had registration codes on them that did not exist with the CAA  I will make a few inquires and report back to you :D

This information on the registration came from the book British Gliders by P.H.Butler.

Just to say that G-ALRU/BGA628 recently arrived at the Shoreham Airport Archive, having spent the past 30 years or so in storage in (I think) East Sussex.

Thanks,

Robert.

Bit late on parade as usual but if you are still out there found this one of the ETPS Olympia.

Sorry about the quality but I believe there is another one in the A J Jackson collection.

I appreciate that gliders have to be G- registered now, but why in the late 1940's/early 1950's?

EoN Olympia

Can anyone remind me of the identity of the Oly that use to fly from Keevil in 1977 when I was a member of the Bath & Wilts GC that then use to operate from that airfield at the weekends?

OLY 545, Interesting to see it pop up in the listings above, bought this one with three others to begin my solo/ownership flying only to have it smashed to pieces in our local 'Hurricane, What Hurricane' debarcle.

The Syndicate rebuilt the plane over the course of eight months and to my knowledge it is still gracing the skies, absolute delight to fly.

Thanks very much for the picture Willip, do you have any more? I have attached another showing a slightly different scheme taken in 1957. I believe that this photo is from the Cyril Peckham Collection. Does anyone know the main fuselage colour?

Several gliders in the G-AL** series can be seen in the 1949 film clips section here:

The short cut titles are out of line with the links.

You're welcome but sorry, no that's the only one - taken on a visit to Shoreham probably back in the early '60's. Any idea what would have retrieved it as I can't remember back that far?

Bath & Wilts GC gliders

Can anyone remind me of the identity of the Oly that use to fly from Keevil in 1977 when I was a member of the Bath & Wilts GC that then use to operate from that airfield at the weekends?

Going back to the Bath & Wilts GC at Keevil in the mid 1970s, I also recollect there being a club Swallow in which the daughter of one of the principal members (Dave something?) undershot the runway, landing outside the perimeter fence and, I think, putting the nose into a ditch with the inevitable damage to it. My recollection is that her father rebuilt the nose and the Swallow flew again. Does anyone know the identity of that Swallow; and whether it still exists; and, if so, from where it now operates? Also what happened to the unique (I think) T.21C (i.e. the version with a canopy) that used to be the club training stalwart? Does it still exist and, if so, is it flying still?

The T21c is being rebuilt in Holland. My father gave them some wing fittings from a damaged T21b for the rebuild. I believe that its not to far from flying again.

No thoughts on the Keevil Oly and Swallow, then (sorry, just catching up twelve plus yeas on)?
