Angela Gittens is a bit of a legend. She’s achieved breakthrough success during her decades-long career, rising to the pinnacle of the airports industry.
She has had leadership roles at not one but several of the biggest international airports in the United States, starting out as deputy of San Francisco International, before becoming CEO in Atlanta and Miami Dade. She led Hartsfield Atlanta Airport through an Olympic transformation in 1996 and has sat on numerous mission-critical initiatives at federal and regulatory level in the United States: the National Civil Aviation Review Commission (“the Mineta Commission”), the Executive Committee of the Transportation Research Board, the Airport Cooperative Research Program Oversight Committee and the Board of Directors of JetBlue Airways. She became director of ACI World in 2008, only retiring last year during the pandemic and the worst crisis in the aviation industry.
But even in a pandemic, Angela remains pragmatic and optimistic. Here she gives advice to women, girls and all newcomers and hopefuls wanting to join aviation.
