PARIS (Reuters) - The world's biggest airliner, the Airbus A380, is set to make its maiden flight on Wednesday morning depending on weather conditions and the absence of last-minute problems, aircraft maker Airbus said on Monday.

The A380 is a massive double-decker plane with cocktail bars, billiard tables and room for more than 800 passengers. Its take-off will be the most closely watched flight since the supersonic Concorde first flew in 1969.

The flight is set to leave from Toulouse, France, where Airbus has its headquarters. Eleven passenger airlines have already laid down money to buy more than 100 of the $285 million (150 million pound) planes.

Airbus is owned by European aerospace group EADS.

A380 website

Just found at a.net.:

On the Airbus website they have put up a whole lot of material for the first flight.

They've done quite a nice job - obviously a lot of work has been involved. You'll find:

- videos of previous airbus first flights
- videos of preparation of A380 for testing
- lots of photos & articles
- 360 view inside cockpit
& more.

Billiard tables? Considering there is a slight nose up attitude during cruise, how are they going to make this work? Will the legs on the back of the table be longer in order to compensate?

More likely ignorance from the general media, or perhaps wishful thinking from airline owners. I very much Airbus would imply or suggest the A380 would be equipped with billiards tables.

You mean there won't be any gyms, casinos and indoor swimming pools? Look, there will be one airline that has a bar, and that airline currently has said bars on their 747's and their single decker aircraft, as well.

It's safe to assume, then, that the interior views of the B787 that Boeing have produced are also "PR BS"?

As people have already reminded to Sandy (on a number of occasions  ) it's the airlines that decide the style and content of the interior and not the manufacturer.

These days the interiors are often fitted out by a third party anyway.

They have been doing so and more since the products inception !

Airbus have released the first shots from A380 tests, including a demonstration of the evacuation system installed for the top deck passengers. HRH Prince Charles who attended the tests was heard to say "WTF?" :D

If they have really suggested billiard tables then they are idiots- I can think of few things less suited to do on an airplane than playing pool.

That's why I doubt Airbus itself has ever suggested billiards as a possibility. Casinos, bars, beauty parlours, praying rooms... of course. There's unprecedented space available and it's normal they'll want to make the a/c as appealing as possible. But billiards? I'd make playing a very interesting experience during take off, descending or turbulence... :D
