Hello,

This photo was included in a CBI photo album i just bought.

Can anybody explain what are those strange markings on this zero. They look like markings carried by a few Jap planes allowed to fly after surrender. I could understand this for transport planes. But a fighter !!

The Japanese needed to keep control in some areas (Vietnam was one, I believe - 'Uncle' Ho was unhappy that the French were going to reclaim their territory and so fought on. I think) after the war was officially over. In some places they were given Allied officers but the soldiery was standard Japanese. I'd imagine that their air force was similarly utilised.
