Take another look, there are a number of differences.
Edit: Basically because they're different aircraft.

-they are different aircraft, and i think we all know which one would be nicest to see in the flesh (or not, depending on your viewpoint).
Chinese models have had a nasty habit of turning into real aircraft in the past few years.

-I've definitely seen that the yellow model aircraft before, maybe not in model form though, although I can't remember where?

I would say that if this concept is a real SAC project and would lead to a real prototype not too far from now ( insh' allah!) , then the yellow model could be one of the very first basic aerodynamic layout testing models (gliding model?), or even perhaps the intakes are under the fuselage on that one. There is SOME configuration similarity between the two, although the black one is obviously more refined and stealthified.
Perhaps this is why the well known "JH-7B" striker model from Xian we know for the last half decade has not actually been pursued, because there was something better from SAC, or perhaps Xian's striker project was not good enough and there was another tender which SAC won (would fit better with the timeline)?

Not really, just looks like a single seat fighter bomber als F-105.

Huge and... subsonic
But you know, the black model might only be an artistic impression made around a former project in the form of the yellow model.
What can be extracted form this photo is only that the Chineese AF are confident enough to build a large modern/long range version of the F117... Or simply want others to think around this idea. Any how, I don't see any benefits afgainst the so called J-20 (no supersonic dash capability etc... etc...)

More like side-by-side seating as befitting a dedicated striker...

-More like side-by-side seating as befitting a dedicated striker...Maybe, if the pilots are Munchkins.

-H-6 replacement?
Whatever it is, it will need a 7500M runway to gain enough speed/lift for takeoff.
