India will send its air force pilots and technicians to the Central Asian Republic of Uzbekistan for training in midair refuelling of IL-78 aircraft, which are to be delivered in three months.
The training schedules of the pilots and the technicians, including efforts by New Delhi to speed up the delivery of these aircraft, will be taken up by Air Chief Marshal S Krishnaswamy in his talks with Uzbek Defence Minister K Gulyamov during the former's three-day visit to Uzbekistan starting September 4.

New Delhi and Tashkent had concluded a deal in 2001 for the supply of six midair refuelling aircraft to India, which will greatly enhance the strategic reach of the IAF.

Krishnaswamy, already in Ukraine on the first leg of his two-nation visit, held discussions with Ukrainian air chief Lieutenant General Skalkov Yaroslav Illych and other defence ministry officials.

Ukraine, along with Uzbekistan, is one of the major suppliers of armament spares to India, and maintaining that supply would be another major topic of the air chief marshal's talks in the two countries.
