Brute, I dont think its just the height that makes such rescue operations hard. Flying close to the mountains is dangerous as the airflow changes (effects of rotorwash etc) the closer you are to the mountain. These effects are only magnified when the operation is done at greater heights where the weather is very unpredictable and pilot disorientation could happen very easily as well. Both India and Pakistan have lost choppers to weather in and around Siachen.
Perhaps some more learned forum members who have flying experience in helos would care of comment.

Will anyone be kind enough and tell me what arrangements does Pakistan have to maintain its Chopper fleet ?

Huh? 6000 mts? Siachin is more than 6,000 metres where IAF operates daily.
Whats the commotion about? LAMA's do fly that height with lil modifications.
