The judging panel assessing the 2020 ATM awards, organised by Air Traffic Management Magazine and Unmanned Airspace, have given the overall excellence award to Poland’s PANSA for its pioneering work in developing a nationwide integrated ATM/UTM system. The winner achieved the highest number of votes from the judges across all six categories.

“While the COVID-19 pandemic has ravaged the air transport sector over the past year it is clear from the competition entries that the ATM industry is continuing to innovate and evolve,” said Claudia Bacco, Assistant Editor of Air Traffic ManagementMagazine. “In particular, the work taking place around the world to develop new UTM concepts and procedures is a testament to how much this industry is embracing change.”

“What impressed the judges in particular was the scale and pioneering nature of the work undertaken by the PANSA UTM consortium,” said Philip Butterworth-Hayes, editor of Unmanned Airspace, ”which involved, inter alia, setting up a complex network of digital communications between controllers  and drone operators to make the flight-related process for visual-line-of-sight and beyond-visual-line-of-sight operations quick and easy.”

We'd like to express our sincere thanks to our judging panel as we couldn't have accomplished this great program without their time and knowledgeable input.
