How the F-35 has been adapted for life on US Navy supercarriers

An overview of the F-35C Carrier Variant in operation with the US Navy and US Marine Corps

T he F-35C is the carrier-variant (CV) of the Joint Strike Fighter. It first flew in developmental configuration on June 6, 2010. Compared to the F-35A and F-35B it features a larger, longer-span, folding wing and has a total of 11 weapons stations. Three are located under each wing, two are in each of the two internal weapon bays and one is on the fuselage centreline. The aircraft is also equipped with a tail hook and modified landing gear designed for catapult launch and arrested recoveries.
