The Tornado Heritage Centre at the Hawarden Aviation Park in North Wales received Jet Provost T.4 XP585 on August 13
Formerly at Wrexham’s Glyndwr University, the jet had been in storage or confined to barracks for around four decades. It joins Tornado F.3 ZE966 on static display at the Hawarden attraction.
Notably, this Jet Provost – formerly of the RAF’s 6FTS - was among the 50 aircraft that took part in Farnborough’s famous ‘Fifty Formation’ in 1968. Withdrawn from military service in 1974, it became an instructional airframe at Glyndwr until 1993. Remaining at the same location, it was then held in storage until this earlier month (August 2023).
Staff from the Tornado Heritage Centre took on the not insubstantial task of removing the Jet Provost from its previous location, with careful disassembly starting on August 10. On arrival at Hawarden, the aircraft’s fuselage was lowered into position by a crane, adjacent to its new stablemate, ZE966. The new arrival will be careful reassembled over the coming months.
