I don't suppose anyone would argue that the PMDG 737 is one of the finest Boeing 737 simulations currently available for Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS). It's the complete package, or it is now because PMDG has just released an onboard Universal Flight Tablet (UFT). It differs slightly from the usual Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) because it can run different apps. It's a free upgrade that I assume will eventually find its way to all of its current product range.
However, I'm currently reviewing it onboard the PMDG 737-800, an aircraft I have quite a bit of experience with because I have a full-size 737 cockpit in one of our spare bedrooms.
An EFB is basically a large digital pad (or tablet if you prefer), similar to those made by many companies that started life making mobile phones. The difference is that the EFB is a more dedicated unit designed to lighten the pilot's load. It does this by providing large amounts of data relevant to routing and flight planning, which is available on demand. The actual data available is dictated by the software supplied in the unit, which I understand is not the same for all airlines.
When you first set the 737 up in MSFS, the UFT will not be on show. You need to go to page 16 of the maintena…
