Dear PC Pilot
I am a subscriber to PC Pilot, which reminds me I must renew today.
Whilst I am a PPL holder, I am interested in learning the intricacies of flying heavy metal.
One of the most important functions is obviously learning the ins out outs of the FMC (Flight Management Computer).
This started when HARS (Historical Aircraft Restoration Society), based at Wollongong Airport (YWOL), Australia, was gifted ex Qantas 747- 438 VH-OJA on the 8th March 2015.
Being a long-time member of HARS, now an ex Committee member, I was approached to take over as Project Manager to ensure her well-being, so to speak, and to develop tours etc to show her off in all her glory to the public. Qantas decided to remove the aircraft’s FMC software, for propriety reasons… fair enough.
I have tried using YouTube sessions, but regretfully they tend to assume you have a good base knowledge in the first place and tend to skip over relevant details, and make changes to waypoints etc without stating the rationale.
I seem to remember that your magazine did a full training article on the FMC sometime ago, but after checking my back issues I can not find it.
Would you be able to point me in the right direction please?
Kind regards,
Phil Mason
