Milk run in a whiteout

While the remote Aleutian Islands conjure up images of snow, ice and wind, they are in fact a 1000nm chain of 69 islands that sit atop the Pacific ring of fire that encompasses the Pacific Ocean with hundreds of volcanoes. While most of the Aleutian islands display evidence of volcanic beginnings, 14 in particular host quite significant activity, and air traffic was interrupted as recently as December 2016 when the Bogoslof Volcano erupted with plumes of volcanic ash up to 34,000ft. Branching westward from the Alaskan Peninsula, our journey will take us from the major hub of Anchorage on a mail and freight run visiting some of the more significant island communities all the way to Unalaska (Dutch Harbor) near the western end of the Aleutian chain.
