In response to the “continuing growth” of eCommerce demand, Lufthansa Cargo plans to kick-off operations with the Airbus A321P2F (passenger-to-freighter) from March 15 in a bid to offer its customers “even more capacity” and “additional fast connections”.
The Irish capital gateway, Dublin, is poised to be the type’s first revenue destination for the company on the link from Frankfurt. Other cities cited for deployment include Istanbul, Turkey; the Mediterranean island of Malta; Manchester, UK; Tel Aviv/Ben Gurion, Israel and Tunis, Tunisia – the German-based firm also reveals that Cairo, Egypt is planned to complement the network as part of its summer schedule from March 29.
According to Lufthansa Cargo, the “partially new stations” are set to be plied twice-to-thrice-weekly to/from Frankfurt.
Initially, just a single A321P2F example will be used, which is the CFM International CFM56-equipped airframe, D-AEUC (c/n 3504) – its interior pictured. Having been handed over factory fresh to Austrian-based Niki back in May 2008 in a single-class, 212-seat layout, the jet then later served with Eurowings from the beginning of 2019 (operating in a plain white scheme).
